Pigments and Colorants

Pigments and colorants are incorporated into polyurethane systems to achieve consistent, long-lasting coloration across flexible foams, elastomers, coatings, sealants, and molded parts. These additives must withstand the chemical reactivity of the isocyanate-polyol system, as well as processing conditions such as shear, temperature, and cure kinetics. Organic colorants offer bright, clean hues with good dispersion, while inorganic pigments provide superior opacity, UV stability, and thermal resistance—making them well-suited for demanding industrial or outdoor applications. Proper pigment selection and dispersion are essential to avoid defects such as streaking, agglomeration, or reactivity interference. In addition to aesthetic value, pigments can serve functional roles, including opacity control, product identification, and enhanced weatherability. When formulated correctly, colorants deliver uniform appearance without compromising mechanical performance, cell structure, or processing behavior.
